emcvisual: see and hear the EMI of your PCB
A free EMC / EMI simulator for printed circuit boards that runs in the browser. Load a board (KiCad, IPC-2581 from Altium, Allegro or PADS, ODB++, Eagle), mark the noisy parts of the circuit (clocks, data lines, differential pairs, the hot loop of a switching regulator) and explore the magnetic near field as a glowing 3D world, with a virtual near-field probe, a spectrum-analyzer view and sound.
This app needs JavaScript and WebGL 2. If you can read this for long, the app did not start.
What it does
- Imports KiCad 6 to 10 boards (.kicad_pcb), IPC-2581 (.xml from Altium, Allegro/OrCAD, PADS, Zuken), ODB++ archives and Eagle/Fusion 360 boards (.brd), and detects the ground and power reference planes.
- Simulates the quasi-static magnetic near field (H-field): Biot-Savart with return currents as image currents in the reference planes, including slots and cut-outs.
- Sources: clock and data lines (also through series resistors), differential pairs such as USB, buck converter and switching-regulator hot loops.
- Shows the field as a 3D glow, a slice plane like a near-field scan, animated field lines and an ant's-eye view across the board.
- A virtual near-field probe gives the spectrum at the pointer; a far-field estimate compares radiated emissions with CISPR 32 / EN 55032 class B limits.
- Layout hints for EMC pre-compliance: return paths over gaps in the ground plane, reference changes at vias (GND to VCC), missing stitching vias, hotspots with the nets and parts nearby.
- Your board file never leaves your browser. English and German interface.
Who it is for
Hardware and PCB designers who want to find EMC problems before the lab, reviewers of PCB layouts, and anyone learning why return paths, loop areas and rise times decide how loud a board is. It shows causes and trends; it does not predict whether a product passes an EMC test (no cables, enclosures or resonances yet).
